About Fast Break Edge
Meet Ian Grant
Ian Grant, founder of Fast Break Edge is the Fast Break Coordinator for the Varsity Girls Basketball Team at Lamoille Union High School in Vermont.
For the past 18 years he has been a professional dog trainer, along with decades in customer service and coaching across four different sports — golf, baseball, basketball, and soccer — Ian has developed a unique ability: the ability to see patterns. Whether it’s how people respond, how dogs learn, or how athletes compete, Ian has learned to recognize the small details that add up to big outcomes.
That same perspective fuels his work in basketball. Along the way, he’s also had the privilege of working as a staff member with PGC Basketball, one of the leading organizations for player and coach development. That experience sharpened Ian’s ability to teach the game in ways that empower both athletes and coaches to make smarter decisions on the court.
Why Fast Break Edge Was Created
Basketball is a game of decisions, especially in transition. Over the years, he noticed that while the fast break can completely change the momentum of a game, it’s rarely measured or analyzed in detail. Coaches often trust their instincts, but without clear data, it’s easy to miss patterns that could give their team an edge and more importantly, a win. That’s why he created Fast Break Edge — to give coaches clear, data-driven insights into transition play. By tracking every fast break, Ian help uncover the choices and habits that truly shape your team’s performance.
His Mission
Ian’s mission is simple: help coaches see the game more clearly, teach smarter, and give their players the edge when it matters most.
Through Fast Break Edge, he aim’s to bridge the gap between instinct and insight. The numbers don’t replace a coach’s knowledge — they strengthen it, giving you confidence that your teaching is backed by evidence. That way players can still be instinctual and still perform at their best for their coaches.
Beyond Basketball
Outside of basketball, Ian is deeply involved in coaching and mentoring in his Vermont community. He lives there with his wife and two kids. Whether Ian is analyzing fast breaks, coaching on the sidelines, or training dogs through his other business, his passion is always the same: helping people and athletes grow into the best version of themselves.
